Useful Information for our Luxury Sotogrande Villa

The following is general information on shopping, banking, sport & leisure, medical and transport services in Sotogrande and the surrounding area. Please note all details provided are subject to change.

SHOPPING / SUPERMARKETS
In the village of “PUEBLO NUEVO” there are four small supermarkets where you can by a good selection of food, meat, vegetables, etc. The English Butcher is just that and has cuts of meat you will recognize. They are open from 10 am to 2 pm and from 5 pm to 8 pm Monday to Friday. CLOSED ON SUNDAY.

There are 3 large supermarkets called SUPERCOR, MERCADONA & LIDL. They are open from 9.30 am to 9.30 pm Monday to Saturday. CLOSED ON SUNDAY

The largest hiper-market for shopping is located in La Línea, which is just before Gibraltar and called “CARREFOUR”, this is a 20 minutes journey from Sotogrande. It is along the N340 to the west (Algeciras direction) at exit 112. It is open from 10 am to 10 pm Monday to Saturday.

The nearest El Corte Inglés/Hipercor department store is in Algeciras. Take the N340 west and leave the road via a left lane exit and tunnel marked Puerto and Centro Urbano – follow signs to Hipercor’s car park.               

The best clothes and fun shopping is in Marbella and Puerto Banús, a 30 minute drive.

MARKETS
- Sotogrande: Marina Blue, on Sunday morning.

- Estepona port: Sunday morning.
- La Línea: Wednesday morning.

BANKS
The nearest banks are BANKINTER and DEUTSCHE BANK, situated in the New Marina complex. There is also a BARCLAYS BANK branch on the main road entrance to the nearby village of Pueblo Nuevo. All have at least one English spoken employee. There are cash points at these banks.

A ball park for young children up to around age 8. Also activities as a Creche in the summer.

DRIVING
The GUARDIA CIVIL (Spanish Police) are empowered to give out spot fines for any traffic violations. In Spain as in most other parts of Europe, it is illegal to drive without wearing seat belts and you should always carry your passport, car hire documents and driving licence.

GIBRALTAR
If you plan to visit Gibraltar, we advise that attention be paid to the sizes of the queues as according to the political situation of the day there can be long delays both in and out of the Rock.

MEDICAL
You will no doubt have made your own provision for medical insurance prior to arriving in Sotogrande. Chemists (Farmacias) can assist with minor injuries/aliments and the Pharmacies can be identified by a green sign with a white cross.

Should you require a drug which you are familiar with by its English name, the pharmacy will be able to help by identifying the drug under its Spanish name and providing this or its nearest equivalent.

There is a chemist in Guadiaro km 131.5 and also one in San Enrique de Guadiaro km 133.5, and one in Galerías Paniagua, Sotogrande. Most villages have a chemist.

The nearest station is located just outside of Sotogrande on the main road.
Most petrol stations are open 24 hours a day. Ordinary leaded petrol is “gasoline”, unleaded is “sin plomo” and diesel is “gasoil”.

One of the pharmacies is always open 24 hours. They rotate, so if you arrive at one and it is not open, they will tell you which one is. They are all a short distance apart by car.

POST
Letter boxes in Spain are yellow. There is one at Puerto Sotogrande and another on the other side of the bridge just before the lower golf course. There is a post office in the Marina at Sotogrande in the Plaza del Agua, open 10.00 to 12.00 hours Monday to Saturday, or in the main road through Guadiaro, open 09.00 to 14.00 hours Monday to Saturday. Stamps can be bought at the newsagents at Puerto Sotogrande or at the Post Office. Postcards can also be bought at the Puerto Sotogrande newsagents. Express services are available from the Post Office.
